Monthly Issue Predictions & Provocations for Sport: 2021

“I’m using my body as a message and a vessel to help raise awareness and that’s my purpose and what I’m going to continue doing.”

Jordan Marie Daniel is a member of the Kul Wicasa Oyate tribe and a fourth generation runner. For her, running is not just a connection to her family, community, and the earth, but it is a way to fight injustice. Last year, she ran the Boston Marathon with a red hand painted over her face, representing missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). At each of the 26 miles, she dedicated a prayer to a victim of the crisis.

Daniel is committed to using her talent and platform for igniting social change and making the world a safer, just place for future generations. She recently established Rising Hearts, a grassroots organization working to elevate issues facing Indigenous peoples.
